Quiet spots on campus

Posted 5 days from now

For sensory overload days

Campus can get loud and busy at times, and that may cause stress for some students. Fortunately, there are places on campus that are dedicated quiet spots or are just in general quieter areas that students can go if they feel overwhelmed.

Dedicated quiet & calm spots 🪷

  • The Chaplaincy: Located on the Edinburgh campus, this is a welcoming, quiet space open to all students and staff, regardless of faith or background. It's a good place to find a calm environment away from busy areas.
  • Library Silent Areas: The Library in the Cameron Smail Building has dedicated silent study floors (ground and top floors), and the Borders Campus Library offers individual study rooms. Even if you don't really need to study, it's good to have them there just in case you need some quiet for 10 minutes.
  • Student Wellbeing Services: The Disability Service provides support and can give extra guidance to students on quiet areas on campus.

Outdoor & relaxation spaces 🌳

  • Edinburgh Campus Woodland & Canal: The campus features extensive outdoor spaces, including a walk through the woodland and a scenic, quiet canal area. These are ideal if you need to step away from sensory stimulation into a calm, relaxing space.
  • "The Lawn" behind the Library: A quiet outdoor spot on the Edinburgh campus, which is frequently known for relaxing, away from crowds.
  • Gala Hills: The Borders Campus is located in a lovely, green area, providing nearby walks such as Gala Hills for a quiet break.
