Discover the Wild Herbs on Campus
Have you ever walked around campus and wondered what wild herbs are growing right under your nose? Maybe you’ve seen foraging videos on Instagram or TikTok and thought, “That looks amazing… but how do I do it safely and sustainably?”
Good news — this April, you can learn exactly that! Join ResLife for a special Spring Foraging Event with the incredible Anna Canning from Floramedica, a professional forager and herbal educator.
This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to explore nature, learn new skills, or simply enjoy a slow, mindful day outdoors.
📅 Saturday, 11 April
🕚 11am – 1pm: Guided foraging walk
🥣 1pm – 2:30pm: Learn how to use your collected herbs (includes a light lunch of soup & bread)
📍 Meeting point: ResLife Hub, Christina Miller West
Spaces are limited, so make sure to sign up early! Come along for a calm, green, grounding moment before exam season kicks in.
We can’t wait to explore campus herbs with you 🌷💚
🛡️ Health & Safety Tips for Foraging (Important!)
We want you to enjoy the event, but above all to stay safe and respectful of nature.
Here are our essential H&S guidelines for the trip:
✔️ 1. Never eat anything unless it has been confirmed by an expert
Some wild plants look similar to toxic ones. Anna will help you identify plants safely — don’t taste anything on your own.
✔️ 2. Wear appropriate clothing
Bring comfy shoes suitable for muddy paths, a warm layer, and a waterproof jacket. Spring weather in Scotland likes to keep us guessing!
✔️ 3. Stay with the group
Foraging areas may have uneven ground, nettles, or brambles. Stick with the group to ensure everyone stays safe and supported.
✔️ 4. Avoid foraging near roads, bins, or dog‑walking hotspots
These areas may be contaminated. Anna will guide us to safe spots on campus.
✔️ 5. Forage sustainably
We only take small amounts, so plants and wildlife can continue to thrive.
A good rule: take no more than what fits in your palm unless directed otherwise.
✔️ 6. Wash everything properly before use
Even safe plants should be washed at home before cooking — always.
