What to Expect

Room and kitchen inspections are nothing to worry about and they will only take a couple of minutes. There are three main points the University is checking during the inspection - Cleanliness, Prohibited items and Maintenance. 

The team will knock, introduce themselves, and explain the purpose of their visit. You do not need to be home for this; we appreciate that inspections may take place when you are undertaking academic activity.

Please ensure that all personal items and valuables are properly stored away in preparation. Our team will conduct a visual-only inspection, which means they will not touch, move, or remove any items.

Prior to the inspection taking place, please ensure your room, kitchen and flat are kept in good condition with no banned and prohibited items. Please make sure that all waste is properly disposed of in designated bins, and floors and work surfaces kept clean and clear to allow our team full access to bedrooms and kitchen/communal areas.

Cleanliness

Your room and kitchen will be checked to ensure there is a good level of cleanliness with no excess rubbish. Ensuite bathrooms will be checked to see if the shower, sink and toilet are clean.

Prohibited Items

Your accommodation contract lists which items are forbidden in your room. Please be advised that any cooking appliances such as kettles, rice cookers, coffee machine etc are prohibited in the bedroom. Electric heaters, plugged in fairy lights and bicycles are also prohibited in the accommodation.

Maintenance

Any routine maintenance requirements that are noticed during the inspection will be reported for repair. If you are present during the inspection and wish to report something which requires repair, please let the inspector know. 

Should anything in the room require a follow-up action, this will be reported to the Residences and Cleaning team who will visit at a later stage. We endeavour to carry out the inspections according to the schedule below however for reasons out with our control, we may have to reorganise this.
